Orban, from EU sanctions risk of war economy

But Hungary will have enough gas

29 July, 13:25
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 29 - "If Brussels does not change its sanctions policy against Russia, all of Europe will have to prepare for a war economy starting in October," Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in his weekly interview on public radio Kossuth. Hungary will have enough gas for the winter, but the price is causing problems, with "monstrous fluctuations," he added.

Previously, Orban stated that the first sign of a war would be when "they declare an energy emergency in Brussels; when access to some commodities must be restricted," according to the portal About Hungary. During a joint press conference with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Orban said a wartime situation could be "much worse than we dare think", adding that it was not clear "how we could avoid recession and the resulting unemployment if the war carries on."
