Kosovo: two border points closed after Serbian protests

Tomorrow Serbs will be required adopting Kosovo licence plates

31 July, 22:56
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 31 - Kosovo police closed two border crossing points between Serbia and Kosovo on Sunday evening, after Serbian demonstrators began to protest Pristina's decision to require Serbs to replace Serbian license plates with Kosovar license plates beginning tomorrow, according to Serbian public television. Sirens could also be heard in the northern part of Mitrovica, which is mostly populated by Serbs, and local media reported on roadblocks set up by Serbs in Kosovo's north.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated today that the country has "never been in a more complex and difficult situation," referring to the license plate issue. Vucic urged all parties to keep the peace, but warned, "If they don't keep the peace, Serbia will win." (ANSA).
